Our Raleigh office is located in the historic Mary Elizabeth Hospital, a landmark built in 1920 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Designed by Dr. Harold Glascock in the Colonial Revival style with Craftsman influences, the building originally served as Raleigh’s first private hospital. Its thoughtful design, featuring wide eaves, exposed rafter tails, and an “H”-shaped layout, reflected early twentieth‑century ideas about light, air, and healing.
Mary Elizabeth Hospital quickly became known for its pioneering medical work. It was the site of North Carolina’s first blood transfusion, the first pathological frozen section, and the first doses of penicillin administered in Wake County, marking a major step forward in modern treatment. The hospital also introduced the area’s first modern obstetrical unit and radium therapy, helping shape the future of healthcare in Raleigh.
Today, the restored halls of this historic building are home to our team of attorneys and staff, carrying forward a legacy of care and service to the Raleigh community in a new way.
